We have lived in Canton since 1967 where Richard had a law practice and then was Circuit Judge for 13 years. I worked part time in his law office and then 8 years in the Lincoln Country Public Health Office. I love gardening and took the Master Gardening Course in 1994.

We are retired now and enjoying golfing, gardening and 5 grandchildren. We have 3 children: Eric, an attorney and Senate Majority Leader in the South Dakota Legislature; Bruce, an attorney who is a trust officer for Citicorp Trust in Sioux Falls; and Jennifer, a teacher in the Sioux Falls school system.
